Compound Sentence or
Coordination



A simple sentence combined properly with another simple sentence equals a compound or coordinated sentence.

Another explanation is that an independent clause combined properly with another independent clause equals a compound or coordinated sentence.

The first way to combine the independent clauses is with a comma and a coordinating conjunction (FANBOYS).

IC, cc IC. = compound sentence

A Sample Sentence

I like my students, and they like me.

Turn these into compound sentences:

I want to go to the concert.
The tickets are sold out.

“The Starry Night” is a famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh.
It will be on display in Houston.

Write six compound sentences, and use each of the FANBOYS once.

Do not use the word “nor.”
