Several authors and masterpieces are the focus of this class. The course includes an introduction to at least three literary genres such as poetry, short story, drama, and novel or novella. Emphasis will be placed on mindful reading and on writing critical essays about the individual works. Additionally, students must actively participate in class discussion.

Class Policies:
1) Attendance is mandatory. Students with more than one abscence from a night class may be dropped or have points deducted from the final average.
2) Late assignments will have points deducted.
3) Reading quizzes will be given at the beginning of class, and there will be no make-ups.
4) Make-up work for exams must be approved by the instructor.
5) Students should be ready to participate in class activities, bring text, and writing materials.
